Clear Lake Regional Medical Center Announces $92 Million Expansion and Renovation

Webster, TX – HCA affiliated Clear Lake Regional Medical Center (CLRMC) announced that the facility, which has served the community for nearly 40 years, will begin a nearly $92 million expansion and renovation project in January.

New Construction of Patient Tower: 154,470 square feet
• State- Of- the-Art Operating Rooms, Pre-Operating and Recovery Rooms
• New 30-Bed Adult ICU

Renovations: 79,940 square feet
• Women’s and Children’s Center
• New Cesarean-Section Suites
• New Newborn Nursery
• Remodeled, Private Patient Rooms

The new tower will feature large pre-operating rooms for patients and their families preparing for surgery; state-of-the- art operating suites; and recovery rooms with patient comfort a continuing top priority. The tower also will house a new 30-bed adult Intensive Care Unit as part of the dedication of CLRMC to provide healthcare with the patients’ needs as its chief priority. Future growth is also top-of-mind with plans that allow for an additional three floors to accommodate a growing community.

Patient rooms and all expanded services are geared toward continuing the healing environment for which CLRMC is renowned. Private patient rooms enhance patients’ sleep and personal recovery time with family. The same high tech, patient-centered care that the hospital staff and physicians have always provided now will include the most modern, serene aesthetics designed with comfort and efficiency in mind.

“Our top priority is to provide accessible, unparalleled health care services to our region, from a superior medical staff and an outstanding team of employees. The enhancements we are planning allow us to continue that mission,” said Stephen K. Jones, Jr., CEO. “For example, we know patients want and deserve privacy while they are here. Private rooms will allow us to continue fostering the dignity and respect of those we serve.”

In addition to new construction, the project also includes renovations to other areas of the facility, which will result in 79,000 square feet of remodeled space. CLRMC’s busy Women’s and Children’s Services Departments will experience exciting changes – including all-new, state-of-the-art birthing suites and two additional Labor and Delivery Rooms. The hospital continues its dedication to the safest and most expedited care for women and infants with three dedicated caesarean section operating rooms. The cesarean section operating suites are located adjacent to labor and delivery to ensure easy access and availability when it is needed.

CLRMC delivers more than 4,000 babies annually, and the hospital will continue its commitment of offering women the highest quality medical services with individualized attention. A newly expanded newborn nursery also is part of the plan for renovations. It will provide the best in aesthetics and comfort, with work stations and accessibility to staff and physicians that allows ease of access to physicians, staff and newborn parents. “It’s truly about providing the best possible experience for women and their families,” Jones added.

“We continue to exceed the standards in healthcare and the services we provide to this area,” said Harvinder Bedi, M.D., Chief of Staff. “This expansion couples a commitment to offering the best technology and growth to meet the needs of the community while providing a facility that will attract leading physicians.”

CLRMC currently employs more than 2,000 people and serves more than 1.5 million people in surrounding communities. As a result of the expansion, hospital administration anticipates some additional jobs in various clinical and ancillary service areas, but Jones emphasized the growth is more about truly enhancing the overall experience for patients and visitors.

“Clear Lake Regional Medical Center has fostered a reputation for excellence for almost four decades,” said Maura Walsh, HCA Gulf Coast Division President. “We are looking forward to continued growth in Clear Lake and surrounding areas and serving this community by investing in its future.”

“An expansion of this size is important on many levels. Primarily, it greatly enhances the services of an already remarkable medical center, which is a very valuable asset to the quality of life for the people who live in Bay Area Houston,” said Bob Mitchell, President, Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership. “Additionally, it indicates to businesses and site selectors who are considering this area for growth or relocation that our economy is more than capable of supporting this kind of expansion not only for the medical center but for them, as well. This is very positive for the continued economic vitality of the region.”

CLRMC’s investment in its facilities and the community has already attracted many exceptional physicians. Beginning in January 2011, the hospital will launch Pediatric Surgical services following the addition of a renowned Pediatric Surgeon and Pediatric Anesthesiology. Since 2007 CLRMC has invested $164 million in projects to expand and renovate its facility:
2007- Completion of the $55 million Heart & Vascular Hospital
• The only exclusive Heart and Vascular hospital south of the Texas Medical Center
2010-CLRMC Heart and Vascular Hospital $17 million expansion (scheduled completion-March 2011)
• 72 additional private rooms
• 64-slice cardiac CT
• Dedicated Pharmacy
• Dialysis Unit

2010-CLRMC $92 million expansion (scheduled completion-Summer 2013)

CLRMC will remain fully operational during construction; free valet and general parking continue to be provided to visitors. Groundbreaking for the expansion is scheduled for summer 2011 with a projected completion date of summer 2013.
