What do I do if I Have a Warrant?

The court may issue warrants for the following reasons:

  • You fail to appear.
  • You fail to comply with an order of the Court.
  • You do not make payments on fines as promised.

If a warrant is issued, warrant and OMNI fees will be added to your fine. In addition to warrant fees, your case may be turned over to a collection agency and your fines would be further increased by 30%.

Also, if a warrant is issued a hold will be placed with the Texas Department of Public Safety to prevent renewal of your driver’s license.

Resolving an Arrest Warrant (Normal Warrant)

A normal warrant is a warrant that is issued when you have not entered a plea on your case and final judgment has not been entered. These warrants are issued when you fail to appear for court.

You have several options for resolving a Normal Warrant:

  1. You can post a bond to get a new court date
Surety Bonds – a surety bond is posted through a bonding company or an attorney. The bonding company or attorney will set their own fees to post the bond, and any money you pay towards this bond does not contribute to your court fees.
Cash Bonds – the amount to post a cash bond is usually equal to the fine amount due. This money must be paid as a cash or money order. Any money posted as a cash bond will be used to cover the final disposition of your fine.
  2. You may come in to the court office and pay the fine with cash, money order, or credit/debit card. You will enter a plea at this time and you will not be given another court date. This charge will appear as a conviction on your record. You may also have the option of setting up a payment plan on this charge. You must call the court office in order to see how much of a down payment will be required.
  3. You may mail in a money order or cashier’s check for the complete amount of the fine. You will need to contact the court office to get the specific information you will need to pay the fine. By paying this citation by mail you are entering a no contest plea and this charge will appear as a conviction on your record.
  4. You may pay the fine in full with a credit/debit card online. By paying this citation by credit/debit card you are entering a no contest plea and this charge will appear as a conviction on your record. (Beginning August 22, 2023, all debit and credit card transactions made in-person and online will be charged an additional 3.5% credit card processing fee.)

Resolving A Capias Warrant
